Pondicherry Engineering College is a premier Government Engineering Institution funded by the Union Territory of Pondicherry, India. The college began its operation in 1984 under the VII Five Year Plan. It is an autonomous Institution managed by a Board of Governors. The College is affiliated to Pondicherry University. Puducherry Technological University courses include undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate-level courses under multiple departments. PTU has a total of 12 departments. They are civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and communication engineering, computer science engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, electronics and instrumentation engineering, chemical engineering, information technology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, humanities and social sciences, and MBA. The PTU PhD programme offered under the mechanical engineering department is recognised by QIP Centre.
